Year One have been busy turning cardboard boxes into creative scenes with moving parts. As part of their DT learning, they explored mechanics by building simple wind-up toys using dowels, thread spools, and string. The children attached their own cut-out characters and shapes, which can be raised and lowered with a turn of the dowel. Nursery went on a mini beast hunt in the woodland area and discovered lots of amazing creatures. They found millipedes, beetles, and worms hiding under logs and in the soil, and even spotted some mini beasts flying around too. Back in the classroom, they used information books to help identify them and learn more about their habitats. The children had lots of fun creating their favourite mini beasts using recycled materials.
