Physical Education

‘To nurture talent and achievement in everyone and build the foundations for success in the 21st Century'

Holmesdale Community Infant School recognises the value of Physical Education (P.E). We fully adhere to the aims of the national curriculum for physical education to ensure that all children:

  • develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
  • are physically active for sustained periods of time
  • engage in competitive sports and activities
  • lead healthy, active lives

Physical education promotes an understanding in children of their bodies in action. It involves thinking, selecting and applying skills and promotes positive attitudes towards a healthy lifestyle. Thus we enable children to make informed choices about physical activities throughout their lives.

External measures are also used to measure the impact of our P.E. curriculum. We have also achieved a 3 Star in the KS1 Star Mark Award by Active Surrey for recognition in improving sporting commitment, engagement and provision in our school. External measures are also used to measure the impact of out P.E curriculum. Each year we apply for the School Games Award. This recognises high quality provision in school with either a bronze, silver or gold award. We regularly achieve the Gold Award for our high quality physical education and school sport.

We also provide a well-balanced area of development for the children at lunchtimes and ensure that all children are able to benefit from adult play leaders experience to enhance games at lunchtime including: Boccia, New Age Kurling, Basketball and Multi Skills activities.
